About Lopez Island

To get a better idea of Lopez Island, check out this map from the Lopez Chamber of Commerce

Lopez Island, the "friendly" island, is the first ferry stop from Anacortes. There's a genuine spirit of community, and a special feeling for life that pervades the population of 2,200. The landscape blends woods with pastoral farmland and shimmering vistas. Lopez is home to many artists, craftspeople, musicians, farmers, fisherfolk, nature lovers and eccentrics. Don't forget to wave to passing motorists, a local custom for many years. What's there to do on Lopez? As much or as little as you like. Walk along the beaches and trails of the State and County parks; go fishing, boating, kayaking, or biking (Lopez is the flattest of the three main islands); visit the winery, golf, or just sit still with a good pair of binoculars and observe the ever-present wildlife. Or simply lounge around and read a book.

Make certain you visit Lopez Village - the commercial "hub" of the island, and home to several art galleries, restaurants, shops, and a fully-stocked grocery store. Grab a latte and a treat from the bakery. You'll also find the post office, historical museum, community center, bank, and Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center and Village Park with restrooms, showers and picnic tables.

The Tour de Lopez, a non-competitive bicycle tour through the scenic landscape of Lopez Island, is an annual event each April. It's a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to experience the magic and beauty of Lopez Island. The Winter Village Gathering is held annually on the Friday after Thanksgiving at dusk. The Village is transformed into a magical wonderland of holiday lights, with nostalgic caroling, food and beverages.
